BIOKITS DNA PCR products provide a range of testing options for the qualitative detection of Genetically Modified (GM) ingredients in food and feed. Approved and non-approved GMOs can be detected using a single, fully optimised and validated protocol. It involves a combination of magnetic particles to selectively purify DNA from sample lysates, multiplex PCR reactions and agarose gel detection.
All products have been thoroughly tested in the BioGenetix partnership of laboratories working with Tepnel, and are not only more efficient but also considerably simpler than other in-house or commercial kit methods. Suitable for testing: The BIOKITS products enable the screening of most types of raw materials (including soya lecithin), processed foods (including chocolate and dairy foods) and feed for GM ingredients. The methods will detect more than 25 known GM events including: canola, potato and rice. The products also allow the specific detection of Roundup Ready Soya, and GM Maize varieties: Bt-176, Bt-11, MON810, LibertyLink™ (T25), StarLink™.
Principle of the Kit: The BIOKITS GMO kits enable sample extraction using Tepnel’s proprietary magnetic bead technology, amplification by PCR Multiplex reactions and detection by agarose gel electrophoresis. The kits use PCR mastermixes that are allin- one mixes requiring only the template and Taq polymerase to be added. The mastermixes are pink in colour because they contain gel loading dye which eliminates the need for a procedural step later on, and the different mixes are supplied in colour coded vials to aid identification. Most PCR reactions are performed as a duplex and fragment sizes amplified are relatively small. Spikes and controls are all included to ensure the reliability of the tests. The agarose gel detection method has been simplified and the combination of a high quality extraction and matched, robust PCR reactions aids the interpretation of results.
