Casein, the major protein constituent of milk, comprises _25% of milk solids and _80% of milk proteins, the balance of the proteins being made up primarily of ß-Lactoglobulin. The BioKits Casein Assay Kit is intended to be used for the detection of bovine caseins/caseinates and milk proteins in a wide range of raw and cooked foods. It can also be used to detect the presence of bovine content in dairy products from other species. Principle of the Assay:
the kit utilises antibodies to bovine casein, coated onto microwells, in an indirect, competitive immunoassay (ELISA). Casein from a sample extract competes with biotinylated casein for binding sites on the microwell. The presence of biotinylate is then determined using avidinperoxidase (HRP) reagent and TMB substrate. The BIOKITS Casein Assay is a sensitive and specific test for casein, caseinate and milk proteins in the presence of other animal and vegetable proteins.
