Intended Use

A quantitative method for the detection of ßLG in foods Intended Use: The BioKits ßLG (ß-Lactoglobulin) Assay kit is intended to be used for the detection of bovine ßLG and Whey proteins/concentrates in uncooked and cooked foods containing milk, milk products and hydrolysed milk preparations. This latest version of a market leading product offers improved analytical performance (lower limit of detection) and is validated for a wide range of samples.

Testing for the presence of ßLG in foods is important due to the potential for ßLG to act as a food allergen in sensitive individuals, especially children. Testing is also performed because ßLG in its various forms has valuable functional properties and food manufacturers may need to monitor its presence to deliver the required characteristics to processed foods.

Suitable to test for the presence ßLG/whey powders and concentrates in raw, cooked or processed foods; raw materials; baby food, environmental swabs* etc.

The BioKits ßLG Assay Kit offers

  • Improved sensitivity - LOD <2ppm; LOQ 2.5-40ppm**
  • BIOKITS Validated method - Reliable results aid analytical decisions
  • Ease of use - Less effort & training required
  • Versatility - Applicable for many raw/cooked foods
  • Flexibility - Cost effective for small numbers of tests

*Using the BIOKITS Allergen Swabbing Kit (Cat. No. 901042J).
**LOD = Limit of Detection; LOQ = Limits of Quantitation at nominal extraction and dilution ratios. Lower/higher LOQ are possible by altering nominal ratios.

Principle of the Assay:

the kit utilises antibodies to ßLG, coated onto micro-wells, in a novel, indirect competitive immunoassay (ELISA). ßLG from a sample extract competes with biotinylated ßLG for binding sites on the microwell. The presence of biotinylate is then determined using avidin-peroxidase (HRP) reagent and TMB substrate. The BioKits ßLG Assay is a sensitive and specific test for ßLG /Whey proteins and concentrates in the presence of other animal and vegetable proteins.
