BIOKITS DNA PCR products provide a range of testing options for the qualitative detection of Animal Species to ensure compliance with Regulations on the labelling of Foods and composition of Animal Feeds (e.g. in control of BSE).

 

A choice of eight species can be detected using a single, fully optimised and validated protocol. It involves a combination of magnetic particles to selectively purify DNA from sample lysates, multiplex PCR reactions and agarose gel detection.

 

All products have been thoroughly tested in the BioGenetix_ partnership of laboratories

working with Tepnel, and complement our market leading BIOKITS range of immunoassay products for Animal Speciation.

 

Suitable for testing:

The BIOKITS DNA products enable the identification of animal species in most types of raw, cooked and processed materials (including ethnic foods and feedingstuffs).

 

The methods allow the specific detection of Beef, Pork, Sheep, Chicken, Turkey, Horse, Goat, Rabbit.

 

 

The BIOKITS DNA Extraction (Speciation) kit enables sample extraction using Tepnel’s proprietary magnetic bead technology. It is used in combination with the BioKits Animal Speciation Selection Module which involves amplification by PCR and detection by agarose gel electrophoresis. The Module contains a choice of species specific PCR mastermixes, packaged as colour-coded “Pods”. These are all-in-one mixes, requiring only the template and Taq polymerase to be added. The mastermixes are pink in colour because they contain gel loading dye which eliminates the need for a procedural step later on. PCR reactions are Multiplex in design. Spike and control DNAs are also included to ensure the reliability of the tests. The agarose gel detection method has been simplified and the combination of high quality extraction and PCR reagents aids the interpretation of results.
